Athena Mentor College Application Workbook 2018 eBook Marlena Corcoran Reviews

If your teen is in high school and looking forward to going to college, you need this book! Dr. Marlena Corcoran gives you what you need to know to apply to college. She goes beyond typical application requirements, walking you thorough the process and answering questions you didn't even know to ask. I love the charts to keep your application process organized. And in the end, you will have a "Book of You." I will be recommending this book to my clients who have teenagers going to college.
The application process can be overwhelming, but it doesn't have to be. As a School Counselor, I encourage and often push the students I'm working with to stay organized. Keeping track of information such as notes on college visits, admission counselor information, testing schedules, application deadlines, and essay prompts is often overlooked and sometimes things can go missing.

Dr. Corcoran explains the application process in a step-by-step manner while giving you places to fill in your information and keep you organized along the way. The kindle version gives you the opportunity to download forms that you can fill in digitally (my preference).

If you're looking for something to explain the steps of the admission process, keep you on track, and keep you organized the e-book is well worth the price.
My high school sophomore and I both have ADHD and the amount of information gathering needed for college applications is daunting. This is very straightforward and user friendly. I can't believe someone made the list for us and it has the perspective of starting to keep track of the information well before applications are submitted. I'm recommending this book to friends.
This workbook is clear, direct, and strikes a great balance between offering step-by-step guidance and more subtle encouragement and explanation to the student. It addresses not just the "what" to do, but "how" and almost as important, the "why" these steps are important. It's straightforward and comprehensive without being intimidating. This is a great tool for students who may not have a parent who can walk them (or push them) through the process.
If your high school counselor doesn't already have a step-by-step college application program initiated at your school, this book is for you. It's a workbook designed to incrementally break down the daunting task into meaningful, and very doable steps, and it allows you to chart all your finished activities, test scores, essays, recommendation letters, for management and reference. I, personally, love the charting aspect, since for my older child, I ended up making a spread sheet on a giant poster board, which ended up being only slightly helpful because I didn't know enough to have all the criteria on there, and I did not leave enough room to write all the pertinent information for the criteria I did include. I am thrilled to be able to use this book for my second child facing this complicated life transition.
This workbook is a huge GIFT to those just starting the arduous process of applying to college. It would have eased our minds (my daughter and mine) to have this straight-forward information ahead of our two-year, 12-college tour across the U.S. While nothing should replace visits BEFORE applying to college, this workbook would have clued us in on much of the detail that should be considered when deciding whether or not a school is a good fit for the student. It also would have helped us become really clear about the most current expectations when applying. Dr. Corcoran is spot-on! I would have loved to have learned more, however, about her take on visiting a school (especially about those with special visit programs where they watch you like a hawk) with applicable checklists as well as the importance of interviews (i.e. why it's not so optional) including preparing for them. I note these suggestions because from our experience, "the application" requires far more than the paperwork!
Excellent guide for all parents and all college students. I am recommending this to everyone I know. Clear and concise workbook with advice from a pro. Ms Corcoran clearly knows what she is talking about. She presents her information so that it is easy to navigate with helpful fill-ins at the end of the chapters. She even offers a full PDF file for free so you can buy this version yet still be able to do the exercises to plan.
